What is the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) and how will it affect my holiday?

Modified on Wed, 27 Aug at 1:41 PM

The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new digital system being introduced later this year (2025) to make border checks in Europe faster and more secure. It will replace the manual stamping of passports for non-EU travellers entering and leaving the EU or Schengen area.

When the system goes live, you’ll need to:

  • Scan your passport at border control
  • Have your photo taken
  • Provide fingerprint scans

The checks may take a few minutes, especially during busy travel times, so be prepared for possible waiting at passport control.

You can find more details on the ABTA website.
